BBC Radio 4 Appeal

Please download a copy of the Alström Syndrome UK BBC Radio 4 appeal here in plain text, which aims to raise awareness and funds for those living with Alström Syndrome and their families. The Appeal has been read by Kay Parkinson, CEO of Alström Syndrome, and was aired on Radio 4 on 27th December at 07:55 AM, and 09:26 PM, and then again on 31st December 2009 at 03:27 PM.

Donations can be made either by calling Freephone 0800 404 8144 or by making a cheque payable to "Alstrom Syndrome UK" and post to, Freepost BBC Radio 4 Appeal. Please mark the back of your envelope Alström Syndrome. You can also donate on-line with Just Giving, which will open in a new tab or window depending on your browser's default settings. Just giving will automatically calculate gift aid for UK taxpayers.

Big Lottery Fund Success For Alström Syndrome UK!

Alström Syndrome UK are thrilled to announce its success in winning a research grant from the Big Lottery Fund. This award, in excess of £344,000, will allow essential clinical and scientific research into the syndrome over the next three years. The award is the result of a collaborative team effort by clinicians at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and at Torbay Hospital, and scientists at Cambridge University. The successful application to the Fund was expertly co-ordinated by Dr Mike Hales.

New Child Development Officers appointed.

Alström Syndrome UK are pleased to announce that Kerry Leeson-Beevers and Catherine Lewis, will take on the roll as Child Development officers for the charity as a job share from 4th January 2010. A new 3 year post created as a result of a grant awarded by Children In Need totalling £90,385.

Both Kerry and Catherine are excited about their new jobs, and look forward to working with all our children and their families in the new year.

The dates for the 2010 multi-disciplinary clinics are now available.

A Winner in the Third Sector Excellence Awards

A cutting from the Third Sector magazineThe Support Group was delighted to be the 1st Prize Winner in the 2007 Third Sector Excellence Awards. Winning this demonstrates the hard work put in by Kay Parkinson in raising the profile of the Group.

The Support Group was also awarded a grant of £46,000 from the Department of Health Compact Scheme. This money will help us to continue and improve on the servicewe can offer.

Gameforce Ltd Donates £600

On 3rd December, a charity auction at Dragonmeet 2005, a games convention, raised £600 for ASUK. A similar amount was raised for another charity CLIC Sergeant which deals with cancer and leukemia in children. We'd like to thank Gameforce Ltd, the organisers, the auctioneer James Wallis and all the successfulbidders for this excellent work.

Charlotte on TV 1

This Morning TV (External link) is doing a series of programmes which go out on a Thursday entitled “A Life With” where they are featuring a number of people affected by rare disorders. Charlotte Parkinson, who has Alström Syndrome appeared on 9rd January 2006.
