We Care about Equality for Our Carers

This week is Carers Week, from the 9th – 15th June 2025

The most recent Census 2021 found that there are 5.8 million unpaid carers in the UK.

What is Carers Week?

Carers week is the time to raise awareness and give recognition to the 5.8 million carers in the UK who give the vital lifeline that carers offer to our communities and highlight the challenges they face.

This year the theme is Caring About Equality and highlights the inequalities faced by unpaid carers, including their greater risk of poverty, social isolation, poor mental and physical health.

Many carers take on this responsibility and often miss out on their own opportunities in their education, careers, or personal lives, just because of their caring role.

Carers Week have published a ‘Caring About Equality’ Carers Week 2025 Report – you can read it HERE

You can find out more about Carers Week on their dedicated website HERE

Our Wellbeing Coordinator Melissa, has written a beautiful poem about thanking carers

Thank you to the Carers

In this world that is ever-changing,
And when tomorrow’s not so clear,
It’s the little things people say to you,
That can really make your year.
It’s someone listening to your laughs,
Being there for your dreams and tears
A person who listens to it all
And talks away your fears
Whether it’s a moment or a lifetime
They walk the path beside you,
Helping to find the truth inside yourself,
And giving a gentle hand to guide you.
They encourage all your amazing ideas,
And sometimes you listen to them cry,
They’ll sit beside you and laugh with a hot chocolate and cake
While life just passes by.
You can send a message in the middle of the night,
Just to say I care.
Or spend the day baking culinary delights,
This person is always there.
And in this year of crazy change,
It’s hard to know what facts are true,
But one thing I know for certain,
Is that I smile because of you.
Now at the end of this poem,
And there’s not much more to say,
But we are blessed,
Because of the ones who care,
They should be treasured every day.
